🚫Suppressions & Unsubscribes

Understand the do-not-email (suppression) list β€” the five reasons an address lands on it, what an unsubscribe does and doesn't cover, and how patrons re-subscribe.

Your Suppressions list is your theatre's do-not-email list for campaigns. Addresses on it are automatically excluded from every campaign you send β€” Marketing and Transactional alike β€” so you never accidentally email someone who shouldn't be contacted. You'll find it in the Suppressions area of the Emails section in your Dashboard sidebar.

Suppression covers campaigns, not service email. Automatic messages tied to a purchase β€” receipts, ticket confirmations, and the like β€” are separate from campaigns and still send to suppressed addresses. A patron who unsubscribes keeps receiving their order information.

Why an address is on the list

Every entry shows a reason:

Reason
How it got there

Hard Bounce

The address couldn't be delivered to β€” recorded automatically

Spam Complaint

The patron marked one of your emails as spam β€” recorded automatically

Unsubscribed

The patron opted out using the unsubscribe link in a marketing campaign

Added by Admin

Someone at your theatre added the address by hand

Global Block

Blocked by CrowdWork at the platform level, across all theatres

Keeping bounced and complained addresses out of your sends protects your theatre's deliverability β€” the sending reputation that decides whether your emails reach inboxes at all.

What an unsubscribe covers

When a patron unsubscribes, that choice is specific to your theatre β€” it doesn't affect other theatres they interact with on CrowdWork. For that patron:

  • Your campaigns stop. The address joins your suppression list, which excludes it from both campaign types.

  • Service email continues. Receipts, ticket confirmations, and other messages about things they've bought still send β€” the unsubscribe page tells patrons exactly that: it only stops broadcasts from your theatre.

Marketing campaigns carry the unsubscribe link. Every marketing campaign ends with a footer that lets patrons opt out. Transactional service messages don't include one, since they carry operational information rather than promotion.

How a patron re-subscribes

The unsubscribe page doubles as the way back in. A patron who is currently unsubscribed and opens that page β€” from the unsubscribe link in any of your past marketing emails β€” sees a Re-subscribe button. One click removes their suppression for your theatre and they're back on your list.

Adding an address yourself

Use Add Suppression in the Suppressions area when you know an address should never receive your broadcasts β€” a request made at the box office, for example. Bounces, spam complaints, and unsubscribes are recorded automatically, so you never need to add those by hand.

Removing an address from the list

You can Remove an entry your own theatre added by hand. The other kinds can't be removed from the Dashboard:

  • Hard bounces and spam complaints protect your sending reputation

  • Unsubscribes are the patron's own choice β€” the Re-subscribe button above is their way back

  • Global Blocks are managed at the platform level

If you believe an entry is wrong β€” say, an address that bounced because of a typo that has since been fixed β€” contact support.
