# Discount Usage Report

See which discount codes were redeemed, by whom, and how often — total discount given, redemptions per code, how many patrons were new, and the order behind every redemption.

The **Discount Usage** report answers the question every discount code eventually raises: *who actually used it, and what did it cost us?* It puts every code you ran side by side, with the redemptions, the patrons behind them, and the total discount given.

## Filters

Discount Usage uses the standard report filters — set them at the top of the page and click **Run Report**:

* **Date range** — any start and end date, or a preset. A new report opens to the current calendar month.
* **Purchase date vs. Event date** — whether the range means when the order was placed or when the event happens.
* **Channels** — narrow to Online, POS, or Manual sales.
* **Events** — search by show, class, or tag to see only codes redeemed against those events.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Narrowing to specific events drops membership redemptions.** A membership isn't attached to an event, so a code used on a membership purchase has no event to match. Leave **Events** empty to see every redemption, including memberships.
{% endhint %}

## What It Shows

### Discount Given

The headline figure: the total value of every discount applied in the range, with the redemption and code counts beneath it. Four supporting numbers sit under it:

| Figure          | What it counts                                                                                                                          |
| --------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Redemptions** | Every time a code was used — paid, refunded, and standby orders alike. A code that was redeemed and then refunded still consumed a use. |
| **Paid Only** | The same figure narrowed to paid orders. This is the number the **Discounts Used** chart plots. |
| **Patrons** | How many people are behind those redemptions. |
| **New Patrons** | Of those, how many were buying from you for the very first time — the order carrying the code was their first ever. |

### By Code

One row per code redeemed in the range, with the same five measures — **Uses**, **Paid**, **Patrons**, **New Patrons**, and **Discount Given** — plus a totals row. This is the table that tells you which code did the work: a code with a high **New Patrons** count reached people you didn't already have, while one with lots of uses and no new patrons mostly discounted regulars.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Reading "New Patrons" as reach.** If you ran a code with a partner venue, a radio spot, or a first-timer promotion, New Patrons is the closest thing to a straight answer on whether it brought anyone new through the door.
{% endhint %}

## How Patrons Are Counted

Patron counts match a person across your show and class records **by email address**, so someone who used a code on a ticket and again on a class registration counts once, not twice.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Why this total can be larger than the Consolidated Summary's discount figure.** Consolidated Summary covers ticket and registration sales. Discount Usage also counts codes redeemed on membership purchases, so the two won't always match — and the gap is memberships.
{% endhint %}

## Who Redeemed Each Code

**View Redemptions** opens the line-item list behind the report — one row per order, each linking to the order itself, so you can go from "this code was used 40 times" to the actual purchases in one click.

**Export to CSV** downloads the same list.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Exports include patron names and email addresses.** Reports access is worth granting deliberately — see [Custom Permissions](https://docs.crowdwork.com/for-theatres/managing-staff-and-users/custom-permissions).
